Gifted Opportunities

Middle School Programming

Sagewood offers a continuum of programming options for gifted/high potential learners based on a student’s area of strength and learning needs. Students utilize high-level thinking through interdisciplinary units and content-specific academic units. Advanced courses are designed to address the needs of gifted/high potential middle school students in Mathematics and Language Arts. Staff at the elementary and middle school levels collaborate using a body of evidence to inform placement decisions as students transition from elementary to middle school.

In addition to advanced courses, student needs may be addressed through a variety of instructional practices which include:

  • Differentiated curriculum, instruction & assessment

  • Electives classes in identified areas

  • Leadership opportunities

  • Affective guidance

  • Flexible pacing & grouping

  • Goal setting for career planning

  • Pre-assessment & compacting

  • Depth & complexity of content

  • Access to enrichment opportunities

  • Academic and affective needs cluster grouping

See more on the DCSD Gifted Education page.

Our  school uses the DCSD Referral Form (including Parent and Student Survey) to initiate the referral process for identifying gifted and talented students in our building. If you think your son/daughter is gifted in any area, please  submit the referral form linked below.
